As a result of Hurricane Marie, there is a high surf advisory which began today at noon and will be in effect until Friday evening. The waves were already pretty large today and are expected to be bigger tomorrow.
These photos are from the Wedge in Newport Beach and they are expecting to have waves as large as 20′. They were not that big today, however, they were very powerful.
Lifeguards were on duty and kept the crowds back. Really with these conditions, they are only for the experienced body boarder, body surfer or surfer. Here are some photos from today, and I will be going back this week to take additional photos to share.
It is always interesting to see how many come out to view these monster waves in Newport Beach.
