Newport Beach will be hosting the 31st California Surf Lifesaving Championships this weekend. This two-day competition will be held in Newport Beach between 18th and 20th Street near the Newport Beach Pier. This is the second year for Newport Beach to host this event after a very successful event last year.
The California Junior Lifeguard Regional Championship for all CSLSA and other Junior Lifeguard programs will be held on Friday, July 26. The California Lifeguards and alumni will compete in these events on Saturday, July 27th, 2013.
Lifeguards come from all over the state to attend and show their talent in this event. It is a great event to watch and see their impressive talents.
Some of the events include paddleboard, surf boat races, beach rums and surf swims.
The California Regional Championships are open to all California Lifeguards and Junior Lifeguards who are members of the USLA (www.USLA.org). Non-members may contact their Lifeguard Agency Coordinator or JG program for USLA membership.

California Junior Lifeguard Regional Championship – Friday, July 26
There are 5 Junior Guard Individual Events and they include: beach run, surf race, run swim run, paddleboard race, and beach flags
Other Junior Guard events include rescue relay, swim relay, run relay, and the paddleboard relay.
California Surf Lifesaving Championship – Saturday July 27
Some of the Lifeguard Individual Events include a 2km beach run, surf & swim race, paddleboard race, Ironman, Ironwoman, surfski race, and run swim run.
Some of the Lifeguard team events include surfboat Race, landline rescue race, board rescue, taplin and board relay.

I have never been to a lifeguard competition, but I can see where it would be a lot of fun and if you live on the beach, this is good practice for the lifeguards.
