Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard Try-Outs
The Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard try-outs are going to be held starting next month at Corona del Mar High School. Corona del Mar High School is located at:

The Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard tryouts will be held rain or shine on the following dates:
Sunday – February 6th 9am – 12noon
Sunday, February 13th 9am – 12 noon
Tuesday, February 15th 6:30pm – 8pm
Sunday- February 19th 9am -Noon
Sunday, February 20th 9am – 12 noon
Tuesday – February 22nd 6:30pm – 8pm
Monday – February 27th 6pm – 8pm
Tuesday – March 1 6:30pm- 8pm
Sunday – March 4th 9am -Noon
Monday – March 5th 6pm – 8pm
Sunday – March 11th 9am -Noon
Monday – March 12th 6pm – 8pm
Make sure that your child has been practicing for this event, as it is coming up soon in the next few weeks.
The Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard is a great program. Both of my daughters participated in this event, and they learned about ocean safety and beach safety. My older daughter is now an ocean lifeguard at Huntington State Beach. The photos in this post are of an event of the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard program called the monster mile, where the Newport Beach junior guards run a mile and swim back a mile.
The criteria for the 2011 swim test is as follows:
The Junior Lifeguard candidates will be able to swim 100 yards under the time standard for each specific age group. And the Junior Lifeguard candidate be able to tread water for three minutes.
The following are the age requirements Junior Lifeguards as of June 25, 2012.
9 Year Olds – 1:55
10 – 11 Years – 1:45
12 – 13 Years – 1:40
14 – 15 Years – 1:35
Additionally, you will need to bring the following information to the swim test:
A copy of the candidate’s birth certificate or Passport must be presented prior to taking the swim test to verify the age.
Newport Beach Residents and residents from out of the area are able participate in the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard program. To register as a Newport Beach Resident, there are three forms of identification are required. View the Newport Beach Junior lifeguard website for more information.
