Lido Isle in Newport Beach was originally incorporated 1906. In 1928, William Crittenden and an architect from Switzerland who was named Franz Herding developed a plan for Lido Isle to be a Mediterranean themed residential area in Newport Beach. The area was built with streets named after Lido of Venice, which is a beautiful resort on the coast of Italy. Some of the names of the streets included the names of Mediterranean cities, including Firenzie, Genoa, Mentone, Nice, Quito and Ithaca to name the streets on Lido Isle. The names of the streets on Lido have Via in front of them – for example Via Nice. Via means Latin road.
Lido also has stradas through out the island that many of the interior homes back up to. There are also tennis courts for the Lido Island resident’s use.
Lido in Newport Beach was one of the first communities to be built with underground utilities. Now other Newport Beach communities are in the process of putting the utilities underground. Newport Shores in Newport Beach has been completed, Along Seashore, and part of the Balboa Peninsula, and Peninsula Point has begun the process.
Lido Island in Newport Beach is located in the West Newport Beach area, and off Via Lido. You cross a bridge to arrive on the island, and it is actually an island.
Lido Island in Newport Beach is a very upscale neighborhood. There are bayfront homes located on Lido Island in Newport Beach, and many of the homes feature slips for their yachts. Lido also has a Lido Yacht club for the use of the residents of Lido.
