Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Needs Newport Beach Residents Support

During the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure which is held annually in Newport Beach in September, the City of Newport Beach has previously waived all its fees including permit fees, fire inspection,  police services, and other personnel costs for the Race for the Cure to stay in Newport Beach. This year, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure has been informed the City of Newport Beach may not waive the fees unless we let the Newport Beach City Council and Newport Beach Mayor how strongly we feel about this very important fund raiser.

By sending a letter or email to the Newport Beach City Council, we can let them know the importance of this Race for the Cure. If the city decides to charge for their services, there will be a fee of $18,000 that Susan G. Komen will be charged. The Race for the Cure has support from the following local businesses: Marriott, Fashion Island, Pacific Life, Spa Gregories, Yardhouse Restaurants and other businesses. Currently Susan G. Komen needs as many local residents as possible to help support this cause.

As a local Newport Beach resident, your voice will be heard. I have already sent a letter to the Mayor Pro Tem of Newport Beach, as well as the Newport Beach City Council and already received a reply from the Newport Beach City Council.

Please help by emailing the Mayor and City Council members and urge them to waive the fees for this important community event as they have done in the past.

There is a sample letter  (received from the Susan G. Komen) which you can utilize to attach to an email. You can edit or change the text, the point is to get your voice heard. You can email to the Mayor (curryk@pfm.com) and to the Newport Beach City Council members at CityCouncil@newportbeachca.gov.   The goal will be to reach them prior to their April 12th Finance Committee Meeting.

I participated in the Race for the Cure last year for my first time, and I must say it was an awe inspiring event. With more than 30,000 participants, and the number of survivors participating, it was absolutely amazing. Newport Beach is a destination spot, and I believe that participants will want to particpate in this Race for the Cure to support the cause, and because of the wonderful location. Visit the Susan G. Komen website for more information.
